Don’t you just love meeting new people and making new friends?

Even better, the random conversations that you can end up having as you get to know each other?

Such fun, and you learn things that inspire, amaze and even shock you.

I made a new friend recently and she told me the most beautiful story of her engagement, I asked her if it would be okay to share it as I thought my readers would find it very moving and she agreed I could so here, for you, is a love story better than anything you see in the movies (especially those silly chick-flicks! lol) because it’s TRUE!

*Disclaimer – names and certain details have been altered to protect identities but the story is still true*

In a small seaside town a poor, young student couple, both training to be teachers, have been dating for a number of years; very much in love the young man, Darren, finally decides he wants to ask Joanne to marry him.

On Valentine’s Day he sets out on his bicycle across the town leaving a trail of roses for his intended fiancé. On the back of each rose is a clue to the location of the next rose and a single word. Starting with ‘Will’…

Appropriately notified, Joanne sets out on her bicycle to follow the trail and begins picking up the roses.

Unbeknownst to her at this point the final rose, and Darren, are set to be discovered at the local pier, where they had shared their first kiss a long, long, time before…

Excitement building as she cycles towards the final destination, Joanne spots a man on the pavement near the pier with his bicycle on the floor, blood running down his face – it’s Darren… Joanne rushes over and drops her bike beside his…

Clearly, there’s been some sort of accident, but there’s no one around who might know what’s happened, and Darren seems to have no short term memory.

Only thing he can remember is that he’s meant to be proposing to Joanne, who he does at least recognise as the woman he loves and he even remembers her name…

Heartbreaking he goes down on one knee on the pavement, in front of all the seagulls and passers by, and proposes covered in tears and blood.

Joanne says yes…

20 seconds later, having no short term memory, Darren goes down on one knee again, proposing again!

Joanne says yes again! And so it continues…

Somehow Joanne (scared and confused) manages to ring a friend; who tells her to ring an ambulance, which eventually arrives…

Joanne is by now, after all those years of waiting, in all likelihood the most proposed to woman on the planet, in the shortest space of time.

The ambulance men get manage to get Darren into the ambulance and try to ask him what happened and how he is feeling, but the frequent proposing is kind of getting in the way, so they blow up a surgical glove and write ‘she said yes!’ on it, and give it to him to hold.

Darren and Joanne spend the afternoon of their engagement in the local accident and emergency department, and Darren’s father, alocal primary school teacher who lives nearby, joins them.

Later when Darren is well enough his father drives them back to the pier to do a proposal that they will both remember. The wind is blowing and it’s starting to rain, but they don’t care – they will remember this moment for the rest of their lives

A year later they get married, with Darren only ever remembering that final proposal and the rest is history as they say!!! 😉

Before any of this occurred though the father had given his son some very important advice when he told her of his plans to propose – “Let her choose the engagement ring” and he did!
