ROW80 2012 – Versatile Blogger Award

I really should have dealt with this by now, last week I was honoured to receive the Versatile Blogger award again, not once but twice!

I did mention having received the award in my ‘Journal Entry‘ post earlier this week and how I needed to write a post about it, having run out of days this week and wanting to be sure to get it in I’ve decided to include it with my check-in for this week…

Therefore, before I get down to discussing how my goals have gone in the second half of this week I would like to begin by thanking Voice of Autumn who blogs at Lost in the Winterness and Katie of Katie in Wonderlandx for gracing me with this award.

The Rules

1.  Nominate 15 bloggers for the award (see below)

2.  In the same post, add the award (done, above)

3.  Thank the blogger that nominated you, and give the link back to their blog (done, above)

4.  Share 7 random things about yourself (see below)

5.  Include the rules in the post (here they are)

6. Inform every blogger that you nominated of their nomination by leaving a comment on their blog (I will pop off and do that next!)

  1. I can wriggle my nose like a rabbit (without touching it)
  2. I can wriggle my ears too (also without touching them), but this is much harder!
  3. I can touch my nose with my tongue
  4. I can’t whistle
  5. My blood type is A Positive
  6. I don’t like tomato ketchup, I prefer BBQ sauce and if there is no BBQ then I will go without rather than using tomato ketchup!
  7. I can tie a cherry stalk into a knot in my mouth (no fingers) so long as the stalk isn’t too short
15 Bloggers awarded the Versatile Blogger Award
Thank you once again to Katie and Voice of Autumn – Please hop over and check out their blogs and those who I have given the award to (links above), I’m sure you will love them as much as I do! 😀
Okay so now that’s sorted lets get on with the Check-in…

You can see the full break down of my goals here

Blogging –

I only had one post left to write to complete my 5 for the week when I checked in on Wednesday, since then I have done 4 which gives me a few scheduled in advance for head start on next week (maybe freeing up some time for other goals? lol). My guest post for Steph went up a few days back, you can check out the poem I wrote for Steph’s Blog here.

I haven’t done any editing/updating of my blog pages this week.

Having 2 days off due to a BPD down led to a huge backlog but 3 hours and 33 comments (more comprehensive than my usual brief comments too!) later I’m up to date and therefore my emails are also clear to fill up again, lol I realised I have actually subscribed to 10 new blogs (fool!!) in the last week as well though, so no wonder I’m having trouble keeping up at times (even without a day off it’s going to be tough!) :/

I don’t normally highlight a single post I’ve read but one that particularly stood out for me this week was a book review by Nicole Basaraba which you can read here  I didn’t comment, just liked the post, but I was intrigued by how she found that as a writer she finds herself either over critical or reading purely for fun. It showed that the book being reviewed this time was from the critical perspective as she picked up n lots of things that an established author appears to be allowed to ‘get away’ with that new writers are told emphatically to steer clear of in their writing, it made me wonder how often best-sellers break the rules! guess that is something I will be looking out for myself now!

I have read another book for the (Fifty/Fifty.Me) challenge, putting me ahead of the 1 per week, which is handy for if there are any weeks I don’t manage to fit in any reading 😉

The book I read is Spellbound by Kelley Armstrong – it is the penultimate book in her ‘Otherworld’ series, I am disappointed that the series is coming to an end as I have immensely enjoyed every single book in the series to date. Each book has been narrated by a different supernatural character from Elena the werewolf and Paige the witch who starred in the first few books to Jamie the necromancer and Savannah the half-demon who features in the Spellbound and Waking the Witch before it – I hear she is to be the narrator in the final book too. If you like supernatural fantasy’s and haven’t discovered Kelley Armstrong yet I highly recommend giving her a try! 🙂

I am still waiting for the final 4 chapters of my beta reading for Jennifer Eaton, I think she is making me wait deliberately! lol

News – There was the sad news that Bob Holness passed away aged 83. For people like myself (mid-30’s) he is most remembered for the TV game-show ‘Blockbusters’ and we all remember the catchphrase “I’ll have a ‘P’ please Bob” – We all wanted to go on that show, just to say that line! lol

In other news bloggers really can become famous, or at least attract media attention. One of the blogs I follow ‘Chaos and Control’ by the anonymous ‘Little Feet‘ has featured twice in the Guardian’s Society sections this week (here and here) after lots of outrage at her closing down her blog due to the reactions of hospital staff to it. Little Feet’s treatment (mistreatment?) has been discussed all over twitter and the blogosphere including at The Not So Big Society and Claire OT’s Blog. It has been very interesting to follow the developments of this case and now Little Feet as contacted PALS to advise her on the legalities of the situation I feel there is still a lot more to come out of this situation!

Working on ‘The Way I see it’ I added 7055 words this week – now before you go ‘wow’ I have to admit that most of theses were transferring blog posts that had already been written into the book; you see this book is about Borderline Personality Disorder and is going to be a collection of my blog posts on the topic that I expand and add to, so there is additional content beyond what you can read here. I think that it was probably only about 1000 words that were new this week, but that still exceeds my weekly target of 750 words 🙂

None yet :/

errm new wii board still in the box, opps…

Still waiting for my business course materials to arrive and just reading the 4th and 5th assignments for Sociology, might get assignment 4 done next week even though it isn’t due in till February.

I’m keeping up with reading, responding and tidying my email inbox (well not entirely – see blog comments above for my little slip in this area) and social networks -well, a small amount to fb/twitter but need to consider a regular ‘chat’ time so I am actually having a few decent conversations rather than just blandly, boringly linking, RT’ing and replying!

I’ve added at 15 CD’s to back-up/itunes etc on laptop/server.

I have watched Dark City as my ‘new’ film for the  50/50 challenge – it is actually an old film, but one I had never seen before – a strange sci-fi starring Keifer Sutherland it wasn’t the best sci-fi I have seen, just okay but at least it was different. I would be surprised if many people have even heard of it as I don’t think it was a huge hit back in 1998 when it came out – otherwise I’m sure I would have seen it before now!?

My TV Shows have not returned from their mid-season breaks yet, but I did catch the first episode of a new show called ‘New Girl’ which you can read more about here

I spent Friday afternoon working on my first attempt at stranger photography and also took the chance to take some photos for another blog feature as well. My post about this will be going up on Tuesday – please look out for it, I think it s ‘super-awesome’ (seeing as wordpress gives us the option to tick a box for this when publishing, lol). I’m not going to give anything away here, but I have got a theme now! 😀

So, on top of Wednesday’s meagre efforts I have ended up with a very good week! 😀

How has your first week rocking the ROW gone? good? bad? indifferent?

  1. Susan!

What a busy and productive week you’ve had! And i love the award and the facts about you. No ketchup? My youngest son would eat it straight out of the bottle if I let him, he will never believe that someone doesn’t like it!

Looks like you have a good pace and some great goals set for yourself. Keep up the good work and unpack that wii balance board. I promise you it’s tons of fun!

    Have a stellar week!

    1. Thank you, yeah I will get the wii board out I had to replace my old one as it broke, I miss wii fit! lol Hope you have a great week too 😀

  2. Thanks for the award, Sharon!

I love Kelley Armstrong too! One of my favorites. I’m sad the series is ending too, but it might be for the best. I’ve noticed many series decline after going for a long time. I’d rather see it end on a strong note than waste away into obscurity.

    1. You’re welcome.
Very true, while sad to see it end it is much better that than for it to become a poor shadow of the early books! 🙂

  3. thank you, sharon, for the nomination 😉 I am working on my post right now. Need to find 15 blogs to nominate 😉 shouldn’t be too hard!

You, my friend, are a very busy person!!! by the way, I loved your last post about Birmingham. I had a dear friend who lived there years ago (has since moved to Wales) and she loved telling me about the “tourists” going in and out of the Cadbury factory! LOL

enjoy your week!!! Happy posting! And thanks again for the nomination!!!

    1. You’re welcome – the only problem I have with these awards is they ask you to nominate so many people, can get tough at times! lol

Birmingham is my home town (now living just outside in Redditch) it’s great to be able to reminisce about it 🙂

Hope you have a great week too 😀

  4. oh, hey! i finally did my post about the versatile blogger award today, too. congrats – your blog is terrific. and the award is a fun way to let people know they are being read and doing a good job 🙂

have a great sunday, and good luck with your goals this week!

  5. Sharon, I think I’m still gonna say, “Wow!” No matter what, whether you’re writing the words or gathering the words, you are achieving your goal — right? Right! Good work!

    1. lol, yeah I guess there is still a lot of ‘wow’ in there, no matter how much I put myself down! lol Thank you 🙂

    1. You guys have some really great posts! My own problem is keeping up with them sometimes – soo many! lol
Keep up the good work 😀

  6. someone elase recommended Kelly Armstrong to me the other week I really must check her out – well done on your week – seems you did well even with a down – good luck this week

    1. Thank you, it still amazes me too! especially as I just continue to add to it – I think I am insane! lmao.
You’re welcome, very deserving of the award and orangspicedrop too – very cool blog there! 😀

    1. Thanks 🙂 Yeah, I’ve only read one of the others so far, but will get onto them probably this year (with so many books to read for my challenge!) 😀

  8. Wow -you are super organised – Bravo. And looking at your awards, it looks like you’ve already achieved so much. Sorry you were down for a while. But it seems to me nothing keeps you down for long.

    I’m a fellow ROW80 🙂 X

    1. Hi Shah,

Thank you. I think I get a bit OCD on the organisational skills sometimes! lol The curse of BPD, pinball machine emotions, but yes thankfully the downs don’t last too long (most of the time) 🙂

Hope you are enjoying ROW, good luck with your goals 😀 x

  9. Hello again 😀

    congratulations on the award! ❤

I absolutely love Kelley Armstrong! I've not got myself all caught up with her books yet though (it will be rectified this year though).

Sounds like you're going to be soooooooooooper busy!

    1. Hi 😀

Thank you! Yeah Kelley is great, hope you enjoy catching up! I can’t believe the series is coming to an end 😦

Indeed, super dooper busy! and of course there’s all the family and housework duties on top of all my goals! lol

  10. Wow you are kicking ROW but this week! I did a lot of copying and pasting in the first round of Row80 I participated in which gave me such high numbers…now I’m dying to hit those same high word counts again.

Thanks so much for mentioning my book review. I felt mean by posting such critical things about an established author but it really was a learning tool. 🙂

Wishing you the best this week!
